The game developer, Her Interactive, has recently announced the comeback of the fictional detective and crossmedia sensation, Nancy Drew, who has been on hiatus for five years. The upcoming game, Nancy Drew: Mystery of the Seven Keys, will be the 34th game in the series since it was first released in 2000.

This puzzle game will take players to the historic city of Prague, where they will be challenged to solve a case involving a client’s stolen heirloom necklace. To retrieve the necklace, players will have to solve a series of puzzles, encrypted riddles, and scattered clues. The game’s reveal trailer showcases the interplay between medieval legends, alchemy, and modern-day cybercrimes, with rusty artifacts adding to the game’s overall atmosphere. While the trailer doesn’t feature much of our titular girlboss, it does introduce various suspects that players will encounter while solving the case, each of whom has a unique personality and potential motive.

While I personally don’t have much of a connection to Nancy Drew, it’s impressive to see how she’s managed to transcend various forms of media. From books to movies to TV shows, and even 34 video games, she’s become a household name for many. Despite her age, which is 94 years old, I’ve only seen the 2007 film adaptation starring Emma Roberts. However, after hearing about the upcoming game, Nancy Drew: Mystery of the Seven Keys, I’m considering checking it out. The game is set to be released on May 7, 2024, and is available for purchase along with the other games in the series on Steam.
